課程概述

Course Description:
Before 20th century, transportation of sea was an important way for connecting large part of Asian area. Usually the sea route is not possible to cut by any powers of land. Therefore, people tend to feel that in anywhere the water of sea is joining with one another. Because of this natural condition, if we watch in total maritime history, we can understand a global culture in Asia without border of nations or ethnicities. Especially, we want to see material evidences for Asian maritime history due to limitation of records before Europeans arrived. For such purpose, in this course three parts will be discussed: humanism-geographical condition of each sea area in Asia (space), total chronological change (time), and long distance travelers/peoples story (humankind).

Understanding of the Asian maritime history through exchange of material cultures among many ethnicities in the whole Asian sea world.

 Requirement:
The course will be lectured in English. Students who will attend this course are desirable already to understand basic geographical knowledge of Asian sea area.


Grading Evaluation: Writing term papers (possible in Chinese without place name).
